I'm pregnant."
Blair's vision darkened and he could have sworn that his heart had stopped beating, but then... he'd done that before, so maybe it was beating after all.
"...Jim and I are getting an annulment."
Like an ancient computer being fed too much information, Blair was about to shut down. But then Megan was talking again, and Blair tried to listen, but it seemed pretty complicated until Megan got to the part about how she and Jim didn't love one another, and how they'd both tried to do the right thing, but that what they'd tried to do was actually the wrong thing because Jim actually loved Blair and Megan didn't love anyone, but everyone loved the baby and then things got pretty simple.
If Blair had heard correctly, apparently he and Jim and Megan were about to become, in a little under eight months, parents. He didn't exactly get that part, since as far as he knew, he'd played no part in conceiving the baby, although he had kissed Megan once. It seemed to him that the best he could hope for was uncle. Or maybe... some kind of step-dad?
"...that's it, Sandy."
That's it? Oh, okay, that's it. He swallowed his entire glass of wine, which he refilled first. When he was done, he filled it again, and emptied it again.
"I think I'll be driving you home, Megan," Jim announced quietly.
Blair thought that was an understatement.

Jim studied his partner for several seconds before finally saying, "Sandburg, I've got a spin that'll set you back on your ass."

Bookmarker's Notes
I'm trying to say that when I saw you floating face down in that fountain, I nearly died. The world went black, I couldn't breathe, and there was no heartbeat to center me. I pulled you out, but you were so damn cold and your face was pale and your lips were blue and your hair, ah, God, your hair...."
I shut my eyes at the memory and my face is hot and so are the tears. "It was spread out on the grass and I had this stupid thought that I'd never find another excuse to touch it -- to touch you. We started mouth-to-mouth and it wasn't working and Simon was crying and God Damn It, You Wouldn't Breathe!"
I'm shaking him now, my voice loud and I can't stop it. "Why? Why wouldn't you breathe?"
"I was, like, you know, dead, Jim."

Detective Jim Ellison waited, but the darkness that was currently gripping his soul told him what Simon was about to say.
"The pictures were of Sandburg. There were over a hundred of them."
In a deceptively easy voice, Jim asked, "You searched his apartment days ago, Simon."
"Yes, yes we did."
"And yet...."
"And yet, I'm telling you now. And you're wondering why. You're wondering why I didn't tell you at the time."
Brown eyes bored into the cold pair of blue ice cubes staring back at him. Time for explanations -even though they were obvious.
"Jim, you just saw why. Joel just escorted the reason back to his cell."

Heterosexually flexible, Sandburg?"
"You know - bisexual. I prefer heterosexually flexible. Less threatening for the more puritan among us. But still; not normal. Definitely not normal and the fact that my flexibility is geared more toward the gay end of the spectrum, well, that really isn't normal."
Who says I hate Clyde's?"
"Well, you do. But it's the only gym on this side of town and the only gym between here and the station. And you hate to work out at the station because when you work out, you still have trouble blocking and the noise at the station is unbearable."
"You do realize that you're the only person who knows any of that, right?"
"So?"
"Just thought I'd bring it up, part of the abnormality of Blair Sandburg, that he knows things about his roommate that no one else knows. Knows things about his roommate that his roommate doesn't even know. Knows things that his roommate never told anyone else before. And why is that, do you suppose?"
"It's a scientist thing. The Lab Rat Syndrome. Give the rat a cute nickname, learn all about it. You know, the usual."
Stay."
"Jim, this won't work."
"Blair, it will."
Jim took another tentative step and felt a real stirring of hope when Blair stayed where he was. Three more steps brought Jim to Blair's side. He reached down and took one of the suitcases from rigid fingers.
"You're gonna regret this, Jim."
"Never, Blair."
"How you gonna live with me?"
"How am I going to live with you, Sandburg? Why happily ever after, of course."
Blair groaned.
