    Peter got a Stark phone when he was ten. Adrian took him to a big store with lots of TV screens that all played the same video of Tony Stark declaring to the world that he was Iron Man. They ducked behind the microwaves, both of them giggling as Adrian stuffed the phone under Peter’s sweater.
    They walked right out the door without tripping the alarm, and Adrian bought him ice cream to celebrate.

    A phone call that his son is being held at the 28th precinct throws Tony’s savoir-vivre out of balance. Because his son should not be in New York, much less at a police station. “Isn’t his mother listed as his primary guardian?”
    “She’s also listed as living in Maryland. Are you going to collect your son or not?” There is an edge to the police woman’s voice, particularly over the words ‘your son’. And Tony realizes, awkwardly, self-consciously, that he probably couldn’t sound any more like a deadbeat dad.
    The reality of the situation is: he hasn’t seen Peter in almost a month now, since their latest horribly ugly falling-out. And practically bailing him out of jail was not part of any of the one thousand bonding and rekindling scenarios he has run in his head since then.

    “Kid. You’re not just here for some mission. Is that what Steve told you when he plucked you out of that jail cell?”
    Peter snorts and pushes off the doorframe. “Steve didn’t tell me shit,” he says. “And even if he did, I do what I want. So if I wanted to sit around with all you people and play Settlers of Catan while eating homemade pretzels, I would. But I don’t, so I don’t. You are a roof over my head and food on my plate. Other than that, you can all leave me the hell alone.” He turns and the bedroom door slams.
    “Is that right,” Tony tells the closed door, setting his hands on his hips. “Oh, we’ll see about that.”
    Mission. Freaking. Acquired.
    Also, homemade pretzels sounds like a great idea.
