    They break up on a Tuesday.

    A perfectly innocuous, perfectly boring Tuesday.

    The air is cold but not biting, the leaves are turning crisp reds and vibrant oranges, drifting onto sidewalks and crunching underfoot. The sun is high overhead, bright and blinding and shining determinedly despite the shift to autumn and nothing changes, not really, not in any fundamental way that it feels like things should change. Like seasons that should be shifting but aren’t, like sunlight shining bright and warm where it shouldn’t, like cool gusts of wind that should freeze. Like the breaking apart of something that should have shattered but collapses silently into itself instead. Trees in a forest, but there’s no one around to fucking hear them.
