And in a perfect world, it would work out like it did in the dramas Kenma guiltily binge watches when he can’t even be bothered to press buttons. They would fall to the ground in a precarious position; something completely unfit for even the boldest displays of public affection. Kenma would have enough strength to look up into Kuroo’s eyes and they would share a moment. In slow motion. The trees would sparkle a little brighter. They would both be paralyzed as the frame around them frosted over and the credits started to roll, showing their graceful fall and lovestruck faces from seven different angles followed by a preview of the next week’s episode.
But they are not characters in a drama. They are just Kuroo and Kenma.
Kuroo asks Kenma out on a wintery double date with Bokuto and Akaashi. Trouble is, Kenma has no idea it's a date.

Summary

“Fancy seeing you here,” Someone with a familiar voice said. Kenma looked around Akaashi to see that it was Komori Motoya who’d spoken. He and Sakusa were sitting at the table in the corner, Komori with a friendly grin and Sakusa with the same glare he wore most of the time.
“Yes, hello,” Akaashi replied, getting over his momentary surprise. “Are you not staying with the team?” He asked Sakusa as they sat down at a nearby table.
“No,” The spiker responded bluntly.
Komori cupped his hand around his mouth as if telling a secret but didn’t bother to whisper, “He’s avoiding the guy he’s in love with.”
“Small world,” Kenma snorted.
Komori and Sakusa both raised an eyebrow and, for the first time, Akaashi could see their relation.
“We’re doing the same thing,” Akaashi admitted.

“I see no pity sweets,” Kuroo observed with a crooked smile and raised eyebrows, “I told you the fake girlfriend would work.”
Kenma nodded his concession. “It did work. Only, instead of an imaginary Karasuno girl, they think we’re dating.” He said it as casually as if he were just telling Kuroo what level he was on.
“Huh?” Kuroo was sure he hadn’t heard him correctly.
Kenma looked at Kuroo as if he couldn’t imagine what part of it Kuroo didn’t get. “Us. They think we’re dating.”
“Oh.” So Kuroo hadn’t imagined that. Hadn’t, with sheer force of delusional will, heard what he wanted to hear.
Kenma seemed to catch on that Kuroo was not feeling as normal about this as he was. “Sorry. When I said I was in a relationship, they just assumed it was with you and I didn’t correct them. It was easier than making someone up.”
“Yeah. That makes sense,” Kuroo replied then took a big gulp of his water. His chest felt tight.

Tetsurou is eight years old when he meets Kenma.
“My name is Kuroo,” he manages to say. His voice shakes with every syllable, but he forces through, doesn’t want to have to repeat himself. “I just moved next door. Um, this is my d-dad.”
Still, a moment passes with the other boy not saying anything. He just stares at Tetsurou, blinking but not smiling. There’s barely a sign that he’s heard him at all.
When it seems like the silence has stretched on for an eternity too long, Kozume-san chimes in, her voice soft and clear, a hand on the boy’s head, “This is Kenma. He can’t speak.”

Summary
The royal family is cursed by the Nekomata.
Even before Kuroo learns his own name, he learns of his role serving for the royal family, and he learns of the Nekomata.
Now, even though it seems that all is well, the curse looms over the royal court years after it takes its last known victim. The queen never gets a full night’s sleep, aging more rapidly than time and the crown demands. Two decades later, she sets out to choose her successor and to give peace to the royal palace, ending this uncertainty once and for all. The task is easy:
Whoever kills the Nekomata becomes next in line for the throne.

Summary
It wouldn't be an understatement for Tetsurou to say he knows his body as much as he can.
So when he wakes up on a Saturday and does not feel the hangover he is supposed to be feeling after being dragged to an izakaya by his coworkers last night, he knows something is wrong immediately. When he opens his eyes and, for the first time since he was a child, everything seems big and not just big but way too fucking big, he knows something is very, very wrong.
When he pushes himself up and instead flops over and out of bed in his hurried movement and a tangle of limbs and does not feel a rough impact and instead lands on all four feet, he knows he is utterly fucked.
Four feet.
He looks down and sees two black paws.
The horrified scream that tries clawing its way out of his throat leaves him as what might have been a meow if he knew how to make that sound. Instead, it's a scratchy yowl that sounds like a cat being murdered.

Or: Instead of confessing, Tetsurou tries to get over loving Kenma by staying away from him. It backfires, and suddenly, he's living life as a cat. At Kenma's house. And with no idea how to fix this. Surely this can't get any worse. Right?

Summary
After Kuroo decides to take an opportunity to do his Master's Degree in Scotland, UK, he and Kenma have to figure out their new normal. Kuroo struggles to adjust to the new country, new language, and the distance between him and his best friend. He was wholly unprepared for just how homesick he'd be. He missed his dad and his friends from university, but more than anything he missed Kenma. He'd always taken to caring for the other, but suddenly he found it incredibly hard just to care for himself.
Picking up on his increasing distress, Kenma chooses to visit him there in Scotland where things finally boil over between the two.

The years, no matter how many have passed, have done nothing to sew Kenma back together after Kuroo left. And the years, no matter how many have passed, have done nothing to erase the urge in him to run to Kuroo’s side, to be in his company, if only for an hour or so. He feels every bit like the boy he was at seventeen.
Kenma’s lived with the absence of Kuroo for so long now that he thinks the act of missing him will probably be easier than the act of being with him. But Kuroo will only come into orbit every once in a blue moon, rarer than a solar eclipse. Who knows when he’ll be just within reach again?
Kenma’s hand shakes as he types, but the reply is a simple and fast, “Yes I’m free.”
