Summary
"You don't see the problem," Buck says finally, in as measured a tone as he can, "with getting married to me. For tax purposes."
"Not just tax purposes," Eddie says indignantly, like that's Buck's main sticking point. Buck finally turns his head and looks at him. Still stupid. Still beautiful, in a light-colored Henley that makes his skin glow, his long fingers curled around the neck of the beer bottle resting on his knee. His big brown eyes and the encouraging little smile on his lips, like he's offering Buck a special treat, instead of a lifelong fucking commitment of platonic marriage. Buck wants to kiss him, or maybe strangle him. Either one would serve Eddie right.
Or: Eddie proposes marriage (platonically). Buck spirals.

Summary
The idea comes to him on one of his drives through the mountains.
He’s driving up, and up, and up until the road has a steep, sheer drop on one side, and nobody’s driving alongside him. He’s headed to the top of a mountain. There’s a gravel pull-off right before a hairpin turn. The turn is protected by a flimsy guardrail.
Eddie parks on the pull-off and walks over to look past the guardrail.
Nothing underneath. Just dry underbrush. A shallow stream right at the bottom. Thin vegetation. If a car missed the curve at a fair speed, it would plummet down the cliff. Next to no chance of survival.
And Eddie’s known to drive, to clear his own head. He used to do it to find hiking trails for him and Buck, or roadside attractions or activities that Christopher might like. It’s a known hobby of his. He’s a good driver.
So it’s not convincing if he crashes in good weather. He’ll have to wait for a storm.
But it’ll work. It has to work.
(Or: Eddie and all the ways you shouldn't love your loved ones.)

Summary
Dinner was supposed to be ordinary. That was all Eddie wanted. Just a quiet night at home, something warm and steady after the chaos of a shift that had left his hands trembling long after they’d pulled off their gear.
Eddie had felt off, but he told himself it was nothing. If he said it enough, maybe it would be true.
The headache was dull, the dizziness manageable. The world tilted at strange angles when he moved too fast, and his ears rang faintly, but he swallowed it down with the Tylenol and the sight of Buck and Christopher laughing across the table. But when he stood, plate in hand to clear the table, the room dropped out from under him. A sharp whistle in his ears, a vertigo so strong it knocked the air from his lungs—and then nothing but black.
Or, while Buck is at Eddie's for dinner, Eddie experiences a wave of vertigo left over from a close-call on shift and passes out. Cue anxious Buck, precious Christopher, and Eddie realizing he loves his best friend.
