'“Feel free to touch any of them and get a closer look,” she says, gesturing to the wall. “Have either of you used one of these before?”
“Not once,” Rook answers, resisting the urge to cover her face.
“On occasion, in my younger years,” Emmrich answers, picking one up to inspect it; it's a soft purple color and the sweeping shape of it is graceful -- Rook is not surprised at all that that's the first one he gravitates towards, “although never with pieces so well-made.”
“That one is made of dawnstone,” the shopkeep says. “It's a particularly conductive material. Warms up quickly. Easy to enchant.”
“Enchant?” Emmrich asks, interest piqued.
The shopkeep’s eyebrows pop up in excitement. “You're not familiar with the enchantments on the market?”
Emmrich glances at Rook, who shakes her head. “We're not!” he says, and, as always, seems excited about the prospect that he's about to learn something new, regardless of subject matter.'

He had pieced together everything she hadn’t actually said out loud. Rook had been a bit smitten since he had first moved into the Lighthouse, and she hadn’t been very subtle about it either. It was a very clear conclusion: he didn’t believe that she would put herself first and he was going to have to do it for her.

“Well, the specifics are to be determined, of course, but ideally… spending considerable amounts of time just like this.” He lifts a hand to tuck her hair behind her ear, then traces the long edge of it with the backs of his fingers. “After an ordeal as world-shaking and revelatory as this one, time alone with you to just be sounds… Hm.”
Rook tilts her head. “What?”
“Well, I was going to say it sounds divine, but given the circumstances perhaps that's not the best word choice.”
