Summary
The first brush of his lips against her shoulder blade brings tears to her eyes. Eyelashes damp against her cheeks, she leans her head back, feels the warm rumble of his bare chest on her back. His warm hand slides along the back of her neck, tugs the hair tie from her curls, carefully unravels her bun so that her hair falls back to tickle his skin. Kiara doesn’t know why, but it’s the tenderness of his fingers through her curls that undoes her. Cracks her in a sudden sob.
She lifts one hand to her mouth, sobs into it as the other reaches behind her to tangle in JJ’s hair. His lips are against the crown of her head, his chest vibrating with the soft murmur of his voice, “I’ve got you.”
And it’s exactly what she needs to hear. It’s too much. It’s not enough. It’s heartbreak. It’s her heart stitched back into one solid, beating thing.

Days after reuniting in Morocco and making their way back to the States, JJ and Kie spend the night in a motel and finally remember what it feels like to be in love.

He lets out a small groan and she turns to see him slowly sitting up and rubbing at his eyes trying to rid them of sleep.
She turns to him and offers a small smile, spatula in hand. ‘Morning.’
JJ blinks at her a couple times, his hand comes up to run through his already tousled hair, his eyes focus onto her and Kie can’t quite figure out what makes his eyes slightly widen and his mouth fall when they do.
‘Holy shit,’ he breathes out.
Her first thought is that he sounds shocked, the next is crap, did he not remember last night? He hadn’t seemed drunk, but she can’t be sure. Maybe she’s just created an insanely awkward situation where he hasn’t seen her in two years and all of a sudden he wakes up and she’s in his kitchen making breakfast.
‘You really are pregnant,’ he continues.

After finding out she’s pregnant, for reasons even she doesn’t quite understand herself, Kie goes to JJ. Throughout the months of her pregnancy her and JJ fall into comfortable and entirely platonic domesticity that will in no way result in them falling in love.- Language:
