We call it Mass Effect: Corsairs. This is a trilogy all its own with unique characters and an original story set in the Milky Way in the years before the geth attack on Eden Prime. Corsairs is an anthology series with a connected main narrative so you can read most parts without context, but it is best enjoyed as a whole.
