“Hm?” Cole had been looking out at something in the field, and he focussed back on Stiles then. “What?”
“You said it comes about when someone needs us. Who needed you?”
He probably shouldn’t have asked, because Cole looked sad all of a sudden. Like he hadn’t thought about becoming a Sorcerer in a long time. Stiles could see that being what he was had cost him greatly, and he couldn’t help but wonder if he was going to run into the same problem.
“A friend,” Cole said quietly. “Someone who was very dear to me. But I didn’t get there fast enough.”
Stiles paused in recapping his water, pressing his lips together. “What happened?”
“I waited too long to help them.”

Lighting the small candle, Isaiah centers it on the altar and stares at the wavering flame for a long moment. For the first time since his wife’s death, Isaiah feels a single tear slip down the crags of his scarred cheek.
He drops heavily to his knees before the altar and looks up towards the silent angel above him, vision blurring.
“Zadkiel,” Isaiah prays, pleads, his voice rough and hoarse, “Angel of mercy and benevolence, I beg you tonight to watch over your child, Alexander Lightwood. Even as Aldertree stood there in front of him, smirking down at Alec with that smug superiority that Alec ached to knock off his face, part of Alec couldn’t move beyond stunned.
He’d known things were getting worse, that the Clave was going too far in their fear to stop Valentine and control everything, but he hadn’t thought they’d go this far.
When Alec finds himself arrested and tried under the crime of treason, he realizes that the Clave isn't going to change. Not unless he forces their hand. Unfortunately for them, he's not afraid to do just that. By any means necessary.

When the first report comes in, Alec thinks it's a joke. Unicorns haven't been seen- by Shadowhunters at least- in several centuries. A herd of unicorns loose in Central Park sounds like someone's poor idea of a prank.
Still, Alec has a responsibility and he's too used to life trying to screw him over with countless impossibilities to rule it out entirely.
And, sure enough, there are unicorns in Central Park.

Magnus Bane, High Warlock of the Downworld, has sworn, after the Second Uprising, to never work with the Clave again, and has banned any warlock from doing so.
However, when the New York Institute refuses to respect that, and continues attempting to contact him, Magnus takes a moment to personally dismiss them.
Only then, the Head of the New York Institute offers the impossible - a night with a virgin, unclaimed omega in return for the healing of their people. Furious, and ready to kill the Head of the Institute for daring to offer up an omega like that, Magnus accepts the offer, fully intending to rescue the poor omega.
It turns out, however, that he's underestimated the Head of the New York Institute - Alec Lightwood.
