Summary
Every Pokemon Trainer learns the same things: A Pokemon can faint an infinite number of times and it will still be fine. You can catch however many Pokemon you want in any area. Pokemon levels can go up almost infinitely, the only limit being your own patience. You can use as many items as you have with you in any battle. But not here. In this world, Pokemon don’t faint. They die. As soon as you find a new Pokemon in any area, all other Pokemon in that area can’t be caught, even if you don’t catch the one you run into. If a Pokemon’s level exceeds that of the next gym leader’s highest, that Pokemon must be benched until after you beat said gym leader. Other trainers can use items in battle, but our trainer cannot. Also, if at any point our protagonist loses a battle, meaning that all of his Pokemon faint, that’s it. He must throw away his badges, release all but one of his Pokemon, and his journey is over.

Summary
Ben Laynes is rich. He looks rich, acts rich, and dresses rich. His hairstyle is always up to date, and his boots are always new. So getting stuck with these losers was really... annoying.
Jeffrey Woods is poor. He looks poor, acts poor, and dresses poor. His hair is oily and long, and his sneakers look shredded. He doesn't really care, which is why getting stuck with these assholes was really... aggravating.
Toby Rogers is weird. He looks weird, acts weird, and dresses weird. His hair sticks up funny and he wears girl's jeans. That's why getting stuck with these strangers was really... stressful.
Helen Otis doesn't give a fuck. He looks like it, acts like it, and... doesn't really dress like it, but whatever. He doesn't give a fuck.
In school suspension seems to be the absolute last place these four would meet, but here they are.
