Richard Harrington scoffs.
“You hit him?” Eddie asks, voice cold and coiled.
“It was a slap,” Steve’s father scoffs in response. Eddie curls his hands into a fist, but manages the rest of the stairs, and the half dozen steps to the kitchen without hitting the other man. The blood looks tacky, not quite dried, but not wet either. Enough time to pass to make Eddie realise Steve probably left a little while ago.“Hardly a hit.”
“The boy’s a fool,” Steve’s mother chips in. “He ran out of here,” she gestures towards the kitchen door, which Eddie only now realises is open, a small smudge of blood , smeared fingertips grasping at the edge of the door. “Into the woods, no less,” she curls her mouth into a sneer. “Without even putting his shoes or jacket on.”

Summary
When you’re a kid, you kind of assume adults know what they’re doing. That if something’s missing, there’s probably a good reason. Spider grows up without parents, and he tells himself that’s just how his life is. But when he’s sixteen and finally sees his birth certificate, sees that there’s no birthplace listed, something shifts. It’s not a mistake. And suddenly, a lot of things start to make sense in a really bad way.

Spider finds out he was smuggled as a baby, and suddenly authorities are talking about sending him “back" to a country he barely speaks the language of.

Summary
He throws the car in park and removes the key before leaning forward slightly to rest his forehead on the steering wheel. The car shakes as the kids scramble out of it, slamming the doors closed behind them. Each resulting WHAM sets off fireworks behind Steve’s closed eyelids.
He just needs a minute. One minute of silence. Then, he’ll go inside to wrangle the kids and clean up before Mrs. Byers gets back.
A hand lands on his shoulder and he jumps, whipping his head to see who’s touching him. Pain floods over the left side of his head and down through his neck and shoulders. He presses a hand into his left eyebrow, trying to chase the pain away with the pressure.
Dustin still sits in the passenger seat next to him. His hand tightens on his shoulder, eyes blown wide.
“Steve, hey, you okay?”

As he slept, Spider was making these small, choked noises, like screams trapped in his throat, tearing up his insides and spilling blood all over the ground. “Get off me! Fuck you!” Spider was screaming, his face going red with the strain, spittle flying from his mouth, a vein in his neck bulging with the strain. “I won’t do it! I won’t tell you!”
Lo’ak wrapped his hands around Spider’s upper arms and used all his might to shake him fiercely, the whole hammock jumping with the force of it. “Spider!” he shouted with a hiss right into Spider’s face. “Wake up already!”
With a gasp that sounded like it hurt him, Spider’s eyes snapped open, wild and unseeing. In one moment, he was held in Lo’ak’s worried grip, and in the next, Lo’ak was stumbling back into Neytiri with a hand held to his face as blood streamed from his nose.
