Each step they took, each exchange of glances, was increasingly echoed by the pain deep within, for the road they were walking led not to a happy ending, but to loss.

For so long, Soul has had nothing. No glimpse of Whole save for the nails he paints for him. A small kindness from what he could be. Whole doesn’t intend this to open up anything more, but it’s not quite up to him. When his half uses his kindness to communicate.
