“Hi,” she murmurs softly, and when he smiles back at her, she lets out the smallest giggle, her eyes lighting up. It’s the most beautiful sound he’s ever heard, and in that moment, the weight of everything—his fears, his doubts, his past mistakes—falls away.
It’s like he’s discovering a part of himself he didn’t know existed, a love so powerful it feels like it’s been there all along, waiting for her. That’s a thing Chris usually doesn’t correct people about, the idea that he has Dads, Plural. It’s easier than talking about his dead mom, easier than answering people’s questions about why he only has Dad, Singular. People who have Mom, Singular don’t usually have to answer questions, but when it’s a dad, people get curious.
He doesn’t really get why, but he knows it’s easier to just let them assume things sometimes.
chris misses his dad. he misses his mom. he misses buck. he's still trying to figure out what it means that he misses them all in the same way.
