When he finally caved, he found that the book was blank.
“What the fuck?” he muttered to himself, discarding the book and picking up one of the others. “What a waste.”
Any former worries about the book seemed to fade as quickly as they had risen, leaving Tim to pick up another book from the stack before retreating to bed.
He didn’t remember drifting off, nor did he remember it being this cold in his room or his bed being this uncomfortable. Tim sat up, stretching, feeling pain race down his arms and his spine in a way he had never before experienced. It wasn’t until his back hit a chair rather than his pillow that he realized something was up. The world wasn’t quite coming into focus around him how it should, but he could tell he was in the Archives. Reaching forward to investigate, Tim saw the blurry outline of burn scars along his right hand. Scars that he didn’t have but he knew exactly who did.
