Summary
Dr. Bumby is dead, and they've been cleared of all charges regarding what happened to one supposed Lord Barkis -- it appears that Smiler Alton, Alice Liddell, and Victor Van Dort can get back to something resembling normality now! Especially Victor, who -- despite being tempted by dreams of being a Whisper -- feels it's his duty to resume his place as the son and heir of the Van Dort family.
...that is, until he and his new friends arrive at the Van Dort mansion, and Victor learns just how much he's actually valued by said family. Cue what was supposed to be his return to a life of luxury turning into a raid on the Van Dort vault, helped by his new friends -- and a couple of curious companions... Story Three in the Valicer In The Dark series, featuring guest stars Barnaby "The Butcher" Fortescue III and Kasimir Jones from Oxventure Presents: Blades In The Dark!

New map area unlocked! Having finally taken care of her primary business in Santa Monica, Alice is allowed now to head back Downtown. Pity LaCroix isn't done bossing her around. And that she had to deal with the Anarchs apparently hating her very existence. And that downtown seems to be suffering a sudden mysterious plague. And that she still has to figure out where one Mike "Muddy" Durbin went. And that this one club owner needs her help getting the Russian mob off her back. And that she has to go drag the Malkavian primogen out of his house out in the Hills. And that she has to get this creepy sarcophagus out of a museum. Really, it's enough to drive a vampire around the bend, if she wasn't already. Good thing there's one bright spot in the form of her accidental ghoul, who has finally reunited with her. . .

Moving to Los Angeles was supposed to be a fresh start for one Alice Liddell. Instead, it turned into more of a fresh death. Ripped from humanity by the predations of one Mr. Fish, she suddenly finds herself thrust into the dark world of the Masquerade, sent to prove herself to Prince LaCroix by blowing up a warehouse somewhere just outside Santa Monica. Along the way, she must navigate her new state of blood-sucking being, the powers that come with it, and the vampires and ghouls around her, not all of which have her best interests at heart.
. . .Alice is very, very pissed at everyone right about now.

Summary
It is a world ruled by Mad Science -- but that's never affected Victor Van Dort. Living far away from all the action, he expected to have a perfectly normal, boring life in his perfectly normal, boring hometown of Burtonsville.
Fate, however, had other plans in store for him -- in the form of a flying steam train. Accidentally kidnapped to the Mad Science Capital of the World, Victor's going to have to learn to adjust. And in doing so, perhaps discover that the city derided as the capital of crazy is more home to him than his real home ever was.
