    Katsuki wakes up from a surgery he doesn't remember getting. The doctors assure him it's a success and he has no choice to believe them. But he feels fuzzy and off somehow, and when he realizes the surgery was for Hanahaki Disease, he becomes more confused than ever.

    After encountering Deku at work, he can't help but notice how irritated he feels. Why is the nerd so unrelentingly friendly towards him? Katsuki just wants to know why he still feels so out of wack.

    “Okay, I don’t know what’s up with you, lately, but you’ve been really cold and distant ever since I got back, and at first that made me a little sad, but now it’s starting to piss me off.”

    “And I don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re acting like we’re great friends! Like we’re always hanging out, but I don’t have any memory of that shit.”

    “What do you mean you don’t have any memory of…?” Izuku froze, eyes suddenly glued to the vase full of orange osmanthus. “Kacchan. Where’d you get these flowers?”

    Everyone in the world is born with a tattoo or symbol of their soulmates quirk somewhere on them. It may not be visible at first, and often develops in detail overtime, starting as an outline, and becoming a more solid representation of the quirk as the individuals age. It is a representation of that individual’s quirk, and with almost every quirk being unique finding the individual isn’t quite difficult. Izuku Midoriya grew up with the firework like explosion in shades of blacks, browns, oranges and reds on his neck. The first person the little kid thought of when it appeared was Kachan, the only one who he knew had a quirk like that. The more he fights, the worse he feels, and as time goes on, he begins to notice the ink on his hands when he coughs.

    Bakugo isn’t so sure. The mark along his forearm shows a constellation pattern, with a line connecting several different star bursts. It can’t mean Izuku, after all Izuku doesn’t have a quirk. Yet everything changes, when he notices his teacher has the exact same tattoo on his forearm.

    Izuku wished for a happy ending, wishes to be held by Kacchan, but the tangle of roots and flowers in his chest comfort him and draw him out of his fantasy. They are sympathetic, kind, and always there for him. He does not mind the life beating inside his lungs, growing as he grows.

    He gets used to sorrows, pain, and unrequited love, but it doesn't mean he won't stop trying to get Kacchan's attention.

    The life in his chest is there for him to lean on. The flowers he spits up every few days are like a gift for his pain.

    He does not mind it.

    TL;DR: Izuku has Hanahaki and his hanahaki is a nice thing.

    The Fight Another Day Agreement is a required legal document for all professional heroes. In the event of a life-threatening injury and the hero and their proxies are unable to respond on their behalf, medical professionals may do whatever it takes to keep the hero alive.

    For Izuku, whatever it takes means removing flowers from his lungs, forcing him to forget about the love of his life. The aftermath leaves Izuku bewildered at the sight of a man with spiky blond hair and red eyes the color of Japanese barberries.
