So yes, Lin Ling did search the dingy warehouse for the exact paint tin they used to create the pentagram, and yes, he flipped the book back open to draw on the diagram, but ultimately, as far as Lin Ling was concerned at least, when the pentagram suddenly flared up he considered this to be Treeman and Nice's fault, not his.
After all, if they didn't kidnap him, then none of this would be happening.
