It was just cold enough that Dean could see his breath on the air. He exhaled around something tight and painful in his chest, another please, maybe, a word that felt a bit like gnawing on broken glass. Please what? he wondered, at an absolute loss. And Sam would get a kick out of this if he wasn’t bouncing off the walls in Bobby’s panic room. Dean Winchester, praying to whoever might listen.
“Dean.”

Summary
One year after graduating Stanford, Sam and Jess show up at Dean's house. They find him living with his roommate Cas, but Jess thinks they might be more than that.

It’s golden hour, now, light falling across the house and lawn like heavy honey. As they walk down the path to the car, Jess says, “I’m gonna tell you something, and I think you should believe me.”
Immediately, Sam stops walking. “That’s not at all a suspicious way to start a conversation.”
“Sam,” says Jess, looking at him with big, earnest eyes. “I think Dean and Cas are together.”
“I mean, yeah, they live together,” says Sam, but Jess is shaking her head.
“No, I mean together-together.”
Sam stares at his girlfriend for approximately five seconds. And then he bursts into laughter. “Dean? You think Dean is gay?”
