no actual attempt, though.Buck finally registered that Eddie was doing something in his room. Buck stood and began walking up the stairs. It took significantly more effort than Buck felt it should have.
When he reached the top of the stairs, he stopped and stared.
“What…What are you doing?” Buck asked confused and a little defeated. Eddie had Buck’s big duffel bag and his work duffel open on the bed. He was packing both of them. He was putting in all of Buck’s favorite clothes that were clean. Buck glimpsed a laundry basket full of dirty clothes placed at the top of the stairs, as well.
“Packing,” Eddie answered like it was the obvious answer.

If he was being honest with himself, he didn’t want to be alone right now, and the hospital just gave him the reason he needed. The real problem was, Maddie wasn’t answering her phone.
Though, of course, she wasn’t. She was at work. Covering for him. Because he had a date.
“Is there anyone else I can call for you, Mr. Russo?”
Closing his eyes, he rattled off the only number he had memorized, besides his parents in Omaha.
“Evan Buckley,” he said, leaning back on the exam bed to wait. He decided to spend the next, however long it took, cursing himself for not having memorized anyone else’s number.
