Hours blurred. The lights softened toward the last call. Henry found himself back at the edge of the room, breathless. Alex approached, flushed and bright-eyed, the brown haired woman trailing behind him.
“Hey,” Alex said, leaning in to be heard. “You disappear?”
Henry shrugged. “Just dancing.”
Alex studied him for a beat, something thoughtful crossing his face. “This is Melanie,” he said, gesturing to the woman. “Melanie, this is Henry. My best friend.”
The word landed heavier than Henry expected. Best friend. A title and a double edged sword.

“I don’t think he’s doing well.” June said slowly, sipping her iced matcha as she contemplated the issue at hand. The cafe they were in was quiet, not many other patrons around. The air smelled of coffee beans and baked goods, adding to the calm atmosphere.
“What makes you say that? Was it his anxious freakout about not having the right shade of highlighters, or the way we had to drag him out of the library like he was drunk last night?” Nora responded with a raised eyebrow.

“Terribly sorry for this,” The stranger said, and oh god he’s British, “but our landlady is on her way here at the moment and she cannot see David.”
Alex blinked once, twice, then suddenly he had an armful of beagle. His brain short circuited at the sudden weight of furry mass he now had. So much so, that his mouth opened to ask a million questions and nothing came out. Instead he gaped like a fish, which the stranger ignored.
The blue-eyed man shoved a duffel bag and pet bed into Alex’s apartment, leaving them on the floor before checking his watch. “Bloody hell, it would be my luck that she’s quick.” He muttered to himself before turning to Alex again. It’s only then that Alex could see he was blushing so much that his ears were turning red. “Again, so sorry.” Then he closed Alex’s own door, leaving him standing there with a beagle in his apartment.
“What the fuck.”
Or, Alex is suddenly in possession of his hot neighbor's beagle. What?

“No bunny ears today?” Alex teased.
“Nope,” Henry said, grinning. “Just helping and explaining. I’m not riding today.”
“Pity,” Alex said, rubbing the back of his neck. Then he tilted his head and gave Henry a devastating look through his lashes. “About that…”
Henry’s pulse skipped like a faulty engine.
“I, uh, looked through the website you sent me,” Alex continued. “And it said something like ‘pro race driver Henry Fox helping out today.’ And I was like, wait… Henry?”
Henry scratched the back of his neck, suddenly feeling very warm under his jacket. “Ah. Yeah. That’s me.”
Alex’s eyes widened. “You’re that Henry Fox? The Henry Fox? With the record lap at Nürburgring and the bunny ears?”
