Summary
She continued her mixing until she heard a crunch from one of the fallen leaves outside the shop’s door. Nobody passed through that area of the building during these hours of the night. The lively chatter and rustle of the Verdigris House could be faintly heard, but those chambers were located way south of where the noise was coming from. Maomao slowly put down the mortar as the footsteps became more apparent with each second. They increased in proximity until finally a firm fist rapped against the entrance door.
The apothecary hesitantly approached the door while her mind ran through all the possible people who would intrude at such hours of the night. She did not expect to open the door to find the gorgeous nymph that frequently roamed the loggias of the rear palace.
“Jinshi-sama, what brings you here at such hours of the night?” Maomao questioned, noting his lack of companionship from both Gaoshun and Basen, his usual assistants.
“I came to visit you. I believe we have some…important matters to discuss,”Jinshi voiced.

Summary
Jinshi rises too, and pads over to the bamboo cabinet to retrieve a bottle of dark wine. Uncharacteristically, he feels genuine excitement stir within him. Not only will this be his last night at Verdigris, but he’ll be servicing the woman who is responsible for freeing him from it. There is not much he can offer in words or compensation for what she is granting him. Ultimately all he has to give, as always, is his body.
Though her situation is strange, Jinshi resolves to helping her how he can. If this is his final night as the Moon Prince, then he will put on his very best performance. If anyone deserves a night of blissful pleasure, it would be this young lady, who holds his future in her delicate hands. With that thought in mind, he commits to his own plan.
or, a sort of role reversal where Jinshi is a male courtesan known as the Moon Prince of Verdigris House, and Maomao the noble lady who buys him out.

Summary
Jinshi is terribly aware most people don’t love the way he does - case in point, he’s picked a single wood-sorrel when he could’ve had a blossom of every variety if he so chose. While he of course feels some male pride seeing Maomao pregnant and knowing he did that, more than anything he feels a deep love and curiosity for the child, and immeasurable appreciation for his wife. It's fascinating to know they created something that didn’t exist, and now they would be responsible for guiding it through the world. He would be a father.
So what was a good father?
Or, Jinshi's on the cusp of fatherhood, and then he's just plain in it. Meanwhile, the rest of the world keeps spinning.
