For the longest time Lucius Malfoy had only one goal, and that was to find the perfect woman to be his wife. His assumption had always been that he would find them at Hogwarts, a perfectly reasonable aspiration, yet with mere weeks left of school it did seem that his dream was smouldering before his very eyes.
For Narcissa Black life had taken a turn for the worse, the horrific actions of her sister had unlocked an illness so terrible that she'd almost missed the last year of school. But she'd turned up, regrettably it seemed, struggled through the last term and had nothing more than her exams before her then her life could restart. After Andromeda's betrayal it seemed as though life was over for Narcissa Black, every plan she had made, every dream that had kept her going through the dull years of school, had been cruelly ripped away. Despite the whispers and taunts from those of lesser lineage, her family name was still of the highest order and in time things would pass. Of that she was sure. All she needed to do was get through the remainder of this term and show mother there was nothing to worry about, surely mother would see that soon enough?

She heard her peers whisper nervously about Bellatrix and learned that competence, at least when displayed by a witch, must be tempered by tactfulness. And when Andromeda was scorched from their tapestry and from her life, Narcissa understood that love had a cost, one that must always be paid.
