Nothing was quite the same after that. He still carried out his experiments and still followed his orders from the Tsaritsa and Pierro. Whenever he could, he would continue his search for that which had been taken. But even he was beginning to lose hope that he'd ever see his son again.
Not until he returned to his home country of Sumeru.

Once upon a time, a single drop of sunlight fell from the heavens. From this drop of sun, there grew a magic golden flower. It had the remarkable ability to heal the sick and injured.
Instead of sharing the sun’s gift, a witch named The Lady Bone Demon hoarded its power and used it to keep herself young for hundreds of years.
Not that far away there grew a kingdom. The kingdom was ruled by a beloved king and queen. The queen was about to have a baby. But she got sick. That’s when the people started to seek out a miracle. Or in this case…a magic golden flower.
The magic of the golden flower healed the queen. And a few short months later, a healthy prince was born. To celebrate his birth, the king and queen launched a flying lantern into the sky. And for that moment, everything was perfect.
But a few weeks after his birth, Lady Bone Demon broke into the castle, stole the child, and was gone. The kingdom searched and searched but they could not find the prince. He was gone.
Every year on his birthday, the king and queen released thousands of lanterns into the sky, in hope that one day their lost prince would return.

After Wukong gets out of the furnace, The Jade Emperor manages to subdue him.
He realizes that they can’t kill him, so they spend the next 500 years “training” him.
He managed to hold out for over 400 years, until they took and sealed away his cub, Xiaotian.
Wukong’s mind, unable to handle the stress, shut off - leaving an almost listless but perfectly obedient shell with dead gold eyes.
When asking around for a guardian for the scripture pilgrim, Guanyin, Nezha, and Erlang suggest Wukong as a candidate, hoping to get him away from the Celestial Realm and find someone who can heal his very broken psyche.
Perhaps, the brotherhood that had been searching for him for the past 500 years?

Summary
The government becomes nervous and paranoid about Sun Wukong, Six-Eared Macaque, and MK. After learning power-draining sigils from the remains of LBD and the mayor’s research, all three are kidnapped and taken to a secure, experimental facility.
To protect Macaque and MK, Wukong makes a deal with the 'scientists' in charge of them. They can do whatever experiments they want on him if they leave the other two alone.
But even a several-times-immortal-being's body has its limits.
And their captors seem very keen on finding out what they are.
