Summary
Saya gets the call as she's leaving the cemetery on Christmas morning. It's the first time she's heard from in in months, with the exception of the letter she found on their son's grave earlier that day. She should have expected something like this, given how far he's sank since the prior year. She is his next of kin after all, separation and different living arrangements be damned. She doesn't think she has it in her to show up at the hospital again, to see him in him prone in bed, attached to those machines. She barely hears anything the surgeons are tell her; he's has more gun shot wounds that no one should have survived, but here he is, lungs expanding, heart pounding in his chest.

Stephen Holder had gone YEARS not believing in the 'Soul Mate' mumbo jumbo applying to him, he didn't care until it happened. He didn't care that it had taken years to actually manifest, his soul mates hand print between his shoulder blades, unexpectedly when his plane touched down in Seattle with the rain pouring down to greet him. He's read into statistics once the mark settled on his back, reading through research papers and there's nothing conclusive, it's a phenomenon with no rhyme or reason. He didn't care until it was there, a hand print spread as wide as it could go, slender fingers, the thumb print mere inches from the ink of the cross on his upper back.

Stephen Holder didn't know when the hell he got so lucky, but lately he's been running off this crazy high of everything going right in his life. It hits him hard as he drives to community centre Monday morning and walks Kalia to the end of the street where the bus picks her up. She's holding his hand tightly, going off about the things she's going to tell Caroline when she gets home after school, minus the night she stayed up late, she promised, pinkie swore. It's just all of a sudden, it hits him and he can't stop smiling as he scoops Kalia up into his arms to smoother her face with kisses. He knows he's lucky, he hears it in his daughters laugh, he sees it in Linden every morning he wakes up to her, feels it from Caroline every time she hands him Kalia's things for him to take back to his place. Every person who comes and goes through the community centre, it's everywhere. Maybe it's the love he's feeling too. Lots of love.
