“And now it’s just Hawkins. It’ll always be just Hawkins.” Robin continues like Nancy hadn’t even spoken, voice splintering around the edges.
“Hawkins isn’t your whole story.” The words are fierce, vehement.
If she could carve that truth into the air between them, she would. She would bleed for it if she had to-- until Robin understood what Nancy has always known.
That she is brilliant. That she is relentless. That she is so much bigger and brighter than this town could ever contain.
“It kind of feels like it,” Robin admits, voice cracking despite her effort to steady it, “And it’s kind of making me want to fucking cry.”

“Alright,” Jonathan says. “I’ll go next, then. Nancy.” He smiles as he says her name with an air of mischievousness. Ever since they broke up, they’ve settled comfortably into friendship (Nancy realizes the hypocrisy in questioning Robin’s friendship with Vickie). It’s been relieving, but it also means Jonathan is a lot more comfortable with messing with Nancy. She hasn’t quite gotten there yet.
“Dare,” she says quickly, before he can even ask.
“Damn, that was fast,” Robin says. “What are you hiding, Wheeler?”
Nancy feels her face turning red. “Just give me the dare.”

Nancy in bed, the bedside clock anywhere from midnight to five in the morning, and Holly slinking through the bedroom door and crawling into Nancy’s bed like she is four again and boogeyman nightmares are the scariest thing she knows. Holly never cries. Nancy never mentions it.

Nancy can't handle not knowing, Holly can't sleep in her own room, and Robin and Nancy have separate breakdowns

Summary
Robin feels a tug in her chest, a soft and fond sort of thing, and she thinks that it would be quite dangerous to fall for Nancy, but the feeling settles over Robin all the same and it's not an all-consuming sort of thing, really.
Rather, it's gentle in nature, winds its way around her consciousness until she realizes, sitting here in the musty, cluttered little sound booth of the radio station, that she could fall in love with Nancy Wheeler.
