Summary
Asher has found the woman of his dreams. Her name is Ottavia, she's literally the gold standard for the perfect, ideal romantic partner. She's stunningly beautiful, very sweet, kind, accomodating, sympathetic, empathetic, supportive, well balanced, accepting, clean, neat, organized. They live in domestic bliss.
However, what makes this domestic bliss the worst kind of hell, is that all of it has to be and stay platonic. Asher is forbidden from initiating any romantic gesture, intent OR TOUCH. Because, Ottavia is from a very distinct subspecies, colony, pride and family from the other side of the world. Where women live by 10 Golden Cardinal Rules. Women initiate everything, and once they do, they must follow a very strict ritualistic tradition before any romantic intamacy can take place, and there are very severe consequences if she does not uphold the tradition- she will loose all ties to her family, her pride, her colony, her culture, her identity. The problem is that the tradition- has been, and could be lethal. So, can Asher wait it out for Ottavia to initiate this ritualistic tradition or not? Would he even survive if she did? Is he patient enough to wait? Or is he strong enough to 'take on her scar', her mark? -

Tiffany Mondon Atwood, is an Ethel Atwood micro-mermaid, going through her courting ritual in the pairing tank at the 'Atwood Center' specifically for micro-mermaid breeding purposes, because the center has access to the best custom mating tanks specifically built to host dozens of cluthces, thousands of micro-mermaids, at a time for their courting rituals/displays. However, for this courting ritual, clutches from Africa, Oceania/Australia and Northern Europe have been especially flown in to introduce new genetic lines into this species and subspecies of micro-mermaid gene pool. And it's known that when individuals of the same species with absolutely no genetic overlap meet, breeding can be instantaneous regaurdless of any ritual, courting or otherwise, so what will win? Instict? Or Tradition?
And Tiffany is named after the poem that Thomas Herne who did a non-canonical editorial edition in 1722 of the Scotchichronicon that was started in the 1300's and put this poem in his edition. This is also the source of why people insist that "Tiffany is a midieval name."
