Summary
Repairing relationships is hard. Repairing a relationship while both of you are recovering from trauma is even harder. Repairing that relationship while you're both literal worlds apart might as well be impossible.
So you really can't fault VR-LA and Maxim for being so bad at it.

Summary
After acquiring a proper captain for the Per Aspera, the crew sets off on a mission. However, this is not their story. Partway through said mission, VR-LA seeks out Maxim at his sanctum in Mechanus, initially under the half-guise of getting his mechanical wasp repaired, but ultimately to see if Maxim can identify what sort of mechanite illness has befallen him.
Feelings are realized and accidental confessions are given. With a bombshell dropped on Maxim's carefully structured existence, how will their professional relationship be affected going forward?
And perhaps more concerningly, what secret has VR-LA been keeping from his crew since the end of their conflict with Azotico?
