    In 1993, Gilderoy Lockhart points a stolen wand at Harry Potter and Ron Weasley with the intent to Obliviate them. The wand doesn't backfire. Gilderoy's "discovery" of the Chamber of Secrets is a short-term success.

    Other consequences are not short-term at all.

    Archived Author's Notes:
    I was watching the Chamber of Secrets movie several years back when the scene in question began to play...and immediately I wanted to know what would happen if the wand had done what it was supposed to do. The answer got very complicated, very, *very* quickly.

    Blame Edgar Allan Poe for the title.

    The home decor store was on the verge of closing and Hitoshi had been discussing dorm room sizes with Midoriya here in the doorknob aisle for an uncomfortably long amount of time. Despite that, they still had no idea how much paint they needed to buy.

    “I still think that ‘you can fit at least five Porta Potties in it’ is a good unit of measurement for a room.” Midoriya insisted as the cashier checked out their stuff.

    This was going wonderfully.

     

     

    When Midoriya Izuku offers to help Hitoshi paint his room upon his transfer to the class 1A dorms, Hitoshi decides that what the hell, he has enough on his plate as is, if he can get his room ready faster with someone’s help and get that out of the way, he might as well take the opportunity.
    He ends up realizing along the way that a) neither of them actually know what they’re doing and b) Midoriya isn’t as bad as he’d first thought. Far from it.
