There’s a baby.
There’s a baby in Shen Qingqiu’s empty robes, occupying the space that Shen Qingqiu stated with great conviction was the most comfortable spot on this gigantic fucking bed, Binghe, move, and it looks as if it’s about to cry. It pauses its fussing to blink at him, huge, dark, impossibly familiar eyes framed by long wet lashes peeping up at him from a tiny round face. It observes him, shocked, in the same split second that it takes Luo Binghe to realize what exactly it is, then it scrunches its button nose, squeezes its eyes shut, and lets loose the loudest wail Luo Binghe has ever heard in his entire cursed life.
Luo Binghe will never admit that while the child screamed bloody murder, his first reaction was to flinch away so violently that he ended up with his back to the unforgiving stone floor. Why are you crying, I’m the one who wants to cry!

In the aftermath of the disastrous events on Tarsus IV, Wei Ying is rescued by none other than Lan Zhan, his former Vulcan best friend and now Starfleet Captain.

“The man who recognised you, Captain,” Commander Osei begins, already wary of his reaction. She is right to be. Lan Zhan already does not know how he will proceed when Wei Ying is identified, when Starfleet realises exactly who it is they have rescued. A life is a life, and nobody on his crew would argue otherwise, but even so.
“Did you know him?” she finishes. Lan Zhan’s face is perhaps not widely-known, but he is given enough press conferences in his time that it would not be out of the realm of possibility for Wei Ying to be — to not —
“We attended Starfleet together.” There is little point prevaricating, and Lan Zhan will not lie, not about this, not even by omission. “His name is Wei Ying.”

“Yes,” Xiao Jiu patiently pulled at his tongue. Metaphorically speaking, though Yue Qingyuan wouldn’t have minded it if he went literal. “He said something when he found me. Do you recall the words?”
Yue Qinguyan frowned, trying to remember. His memory wasn’t that good, but for Xiao Jiu, he would try. “Something about being worried about you? That- That Heavenly Demons were immortal, but if anyone figured out a way to kill one from sheer stress alone it would be…” He trailed off; The words which didn’t make much sense when he was a child finally clicked. His eyes trailed towards Xiao Jiu’s huadian. Or, should he say, his zuiyin? “...you.”
Finally giving into the urge, he pressed a kiss against it. If he smeared it, Xiao Jiu could just bully him into helping redraw it.
There was a weird choked noise, which reminded Yue Qingyuan that his shidi was still in the room.

He turned on Yue Qingyuan. “We will reside in separate wings of the estate. We need not take meals together, we need not share beds or carriages or lives. Efforts must be made to appear together in court whenever required, and occasionally to share a bedroom, but this can be suffered. Political marriages are seldom any other way; ours is not in any way atypical or extraordinary from the countless others in history. At least we as men won’t be pressed to squeeze out a child. The Emperor will be satisfied, our faces will be only lightly diminished in the court’s regard, and behind our backs instead of to our faces. On the upside, we will reap the benefits of being married men. The most excruciating part is over.”
The Emperor decrees that Yue Qingyuan and Shen Qingqiu marry.
