Summary
Kyra's worked hard all her life to uphold masks, and the masks have come to define her as much as what lays beneath them. The arrival of the Affini is stripping away her identity piece by piece, so who gets left behind? No one, not in the Compact. Especially not a seedling sprout, trying so hard to cling to what she's been that she's afraid of what she could be.
Gaillardia has loved and lost many florets, and each holds a dear place in her core. The most recent parting was especially bittersweet, and she's a little apprehensive to accept another. But an Affini's very nature is to flower, and something about this particular sprout is beckoning her to love and risk loss once more.

Set in GlitchyRobo's Human Domestication Guide setting.
Humanity has been invaded by a precursor race of hypercompetent plant dommes called the Affini, and forcibly given paradise in a post-scarcity culture that heavily prioritizes the care for its protectorates, to the point of drugging and mind-controlling them into a blissful reverie if necessary. For almost everyone this is a vast improvement. All that's required is to give up any silly notions that anyone except for the Affini know what's best for everyone; in many cases the poor things clearly don't.
Indi has a fun day in the place with the big people.
No formatting tricks or anything this time. This story takes place on the Trillium, but does not require any part of The Place Where We Can Stop Running to understand.
