Summary
Dutch had followed her in the bathroom, blabbering excuses about not wanting to put up with the boy at the desk, and praising the importance of sticking together if they wanted to make a run for it. Nonsense, all of it. Dutch simply can't let Hosea have something nice without poking her nose into it. And Hosea has resigned herself to the fact that she doesn’t actually mind the company.
If Dutch doesn’t try to talk her way into the tub, Hosea will consider it a failure of her instincts.

Summary
Back in their younger days, when Arthur was still fresh in their group and Dutch and Hosea were still starry eyed and untroubled, they’d done what they’d considered the most romantic thing to do between outlaws. They were both dual wielders, and so they’d each etched in their own initials on one of their guns before doing the same to one of the other’s. This tradition carried every time Dutch lost his guns, or they broke, yet Hosea’d never had to replace his. On this handle had the lovingly carved initials of a twenty five year old Dutch Van der Linde.

Summary
Matted, unkempt hair framing a tiny gaunt face, too dirty to subscribe to any colour. A face that Hosea first thinks is dark skinned, but realises belatedly that it’s just that dirty. Dried blood cakes the boy’s cheeks. Naked, crouched, smelling and moving for all the world like any other wild animal, he tears into some jerky rations Hosea bought a couple towns back like they’ll disappear any second. It’s the desperate urgency of needing the food gone as soon as possible because otherwise it will be taken. He hardly breathes for stuffing his grimy face. It’s unsurprising coupled with the fact that the cuts of dried meat look bigger than the boy’s ribs, of which Hosea can see each and every one plainly jutting through his tortured skin. He looks all of forty five pounds, with five being attributed to muck.
Hosea’s breath all leaves him at once, but neither of them make a sound. All the same, the boy’s head shoots up, meeting their eyes with wide, startlingly pigmented eyes. Hosea hardly sees him move, but in the next couple seconds he’s gone, jerky and all.
(Hosea and Dutch find a boy who is maybe probably human and likes beans.)

Summary
John doesn’t understand, but he nods anyway. Another breeze blows through the air, and he shivers without meaning to. The ground is ice-cold against his bare feet. It’s fine, though--he’s used to it.
Suddenly there’s a warm weight on his head, and he reaches up to feel leather and rope. It’s a hat, worn and soft with age. He looks at Arthur, whose head is now uncovered.
“Keep it for the night, kid,” he says. There’s a faint smile on his face. “That little mop of hair ain’t gonna keep you warm.”

“Oh my god. It must’ve fallen off.”
John’s voice cracked as he exclaimed, “What?!”
“I can’t believe this,” Arthur continued, voice taut with faux panic. “I had it just a second ago— oh my god. One of the eels must’ve taken it.”
John’s face went white as a sheet. His body was stiff.
“All these years, I thought Hosea was pullin’ my leg when he said your dick would fall off if you played with it too much, but he was tellin’ me the truth this whole time!”
(While washing up for supper, Arthur tells John an unfortunate lie.)

Fear that was faint, but still sour, on the still air. “I’ve seen what you do to idiots who pick fights with us. You werewolves aren’t that fragile.”
“We ain’t that strong, neither,” Arthur told him.
The Pinkertons have been lost in the snow, and the law has bigger game on its mind. The O'Driscolls aren't as easy to lose.
