When he sets the book down for Ed to see, he can’t quite look him in the eye or at the book, so he opts for the floor. “And I thought, well, maybe it isn’t all as bad as I had assumed. “Hey Bianca, we’ve got—” Will, he’d told her his name was, starts as he holds up the stick he’d been cooking some kind of meat on over the fire.
“Nicodemo.” Her brother’s full name slips from her lips without permission.
Her brother doesn’t look at her. “Hey B.”

Sokka glanced at Katara with a quick smile, turning back to calmly watch the horizon above the gentle waves that faded along the Ember Island shore. They were seated under the shaded eaves on the veranda, sitting comfortably with the quiet fluttering of dragonfly hummingbird wings. Behind them, the soft oceanside wind made a low whistle that kept pushing the slatted bamboo blinds against the edges of the trim.
For a long, peaceful moment, the two of them simply sat side-by-side on the warped floorboards, watching the morning sun.

For a hundred years, war and devastation consumed the world. Aang was one of only people left to remember that it ever used to be different. To remember that there was a time when sixteen year old boys weren’t dressed in armor and sent to commit acts of violence, and twelve year old kids weren’t meant to stop them. To remember having friends in the Fire Nation. To remembers walking through Caldera City with Kuzon, choking on Fire Flakes, and watching street performers.
So now that Zuko was here asking for redemption...well, being friends sounded better than being enemies.
Maybe their friendship was destined to be. Maybe together they could bring back some of what was lost.
(AKA, After Zuko joins the Gaang, Aang gets to know him and they become friends).
