    He didn’t speak until he was Six.
    Every time his mother took him to the doctors with worries of him not talking, the doctors all said the same thing. ‘He’ll talk when he’s ready.’ and they were right. He did.
    It wasn’t as if Derek chose not to talk at times, it was more like he couldn’t.
    His throat would close and no matter how hard he tried to cough up words, they would stay drowning in his windpipe, leaving nothing by a pathetic gurgle in their wake.
