Until Sally's heart broke, watching in horror as the gold settled over Percy's heaving chest in lethal, curving, serpentine cursive.

The initial hope she'd had of a soulmate for her beloved baby was replaced with the cold truth. Any soul bound to burn for divinity was destined only to ash.
