Zuko takes a step forward. “Father,” he says, “I’m not a she. I know this. I want you to know this as well.”
Father’s back stays turned. He picks up a brush, writes a note.
“Father,” Zuko repeats, louder this time. “I am your son. Please listen to me.” He can feel the tears coming up again, and fights to hold them back. “Father!” he shouts, slightly shocked at himself. He’s never raised his voice at his father before.Or: 5 times Zuko screams from a bad emotion, and 1 time he screams from a good one ;)

Summary
Serving in the Fire Lord's palace promoted a realistic sense of caution, of fear. Servants who caught the eye of those in power often didn't have happy endings. After Ozai and Azula, and Azulon and Sozin before them, there was no reason not to believe that the newly-crowned Fire Lord Zuko didn't also share the little family tradition of cruelty to servants. After all, everybody knew that he had challenged his own father to a duel, that he had a short temper, that he was a powerful bender, that he had hunted the Avatar for years before dethroning his sister.
So when serving-boy Shin starts being watched by the Fire Lord, he naturally assumes the worst. Of course, Zuko is nothing if not Extremely Awkward, and ohAgniwhyisthatservantsocute?
