A Sterek Cinderella Story-
Derek couldn’t put his finger on it, and maybe it was because he was just so incredibly enamored with this person, but there was a certain familiarity about him. Something about him made Derek feel like they’d known each other for ages.
“Tell me something about yourself that no one else knows.” Derek inquired.
“Hmmm,” the stranger thought, “I hate the color yellow.”
Derek chuckled.
“No, no, I mean something real, profound.” Derek implored with a hint of laughter still in his voice.
The younger man turned to Derek and considered him for a moment. Then, his eyes drifted to the sky above them and he took a deep breath in. Derek gazed up at the stars with him.
“Sometimes, I sit and watch the night sky for hours, after everyone else is fast asleep.” He said it in a hushed voice just above a whisper. “When I look at the stars, I see the vast expanse of the universe and imagine I am up there and seeing the earth from above. When I see the moon, I know that anything is possible.” -

The drummer's shoulders tensed as he stopped scooping the eggs out of the pan. He set down the spatula and gripped the edges of the stove.
"It's... it's a court summons. From Jenna's parents." Josh said in a breathy voice. "I can't even believe what I just read."

Summary
It’s something out of a nightmare.
“Come on," Laura shouts at him, choking on ashwood smoke and hauling him forward when he doesn't move.
“Stand down!” Talia's roar cuts through the clearing like a shot, and it’s all alpha, the Call reverberating from his chest and locking his limbs. Laura and Derek go down hard, belly to the ground in submission.
But Laura snarls, shaking the alpha's influence while he stays down. Derek whines, high and hurting and useless.
“Get back,” Talia screams, high and tight, rattling Derek to his core. He has never heard her sound like that before. “Laura, get back, get back!”
He feels it before he hears it. The air expands, a hot and heavy pressure, impossibly thick. There's heat on his face and barely manages to cover his face, self-preservation overriding the alpha’s subjugation. One of the bonds in his chest comes sharply into focus, an elastic pulling tighter and tighter until it snaps and ricochets through through him in bright agony. An explosion rings through the air, louder and louder until his eardrums burst and he just shuts down.
(Or: Talia Hale survives the fire. For Derek, it changes nothing.)
