It was FINE that Moon was taking Qibli to the rainforest to meet her mom and see her tribe’s habitat properly, without the threat of a murderous IceWing princess. It was TOTALLY FINE, too, that Clay was busy trying to decide which new IceWing students to accept to the school.

Summary
Turtle snuck into the Royal Hatchery one night. He settled in amongst the seaweed nests, in what seemed like a respectful distance away from Queen Coral’s growing—still unhatched—daughters, and watched the little eggs. The silhouettes of his sisters. He stayed there, blending in amongst the dark waters, eyes trained on the clusters of eggs. There were only four in this, and dozens of other sons to be had—but Turtle knew they were safe. They would hatch without his intervention. This mission of his was for the future princesses, and now, with his talons and snout buried in the wet sand, eyes facing the four sisters he might meet if this just went well—the prince knew what he needed to do.
(or: turtle is just a prince, and princes are replaceable, but animus dragons aren’t.)
