It had been six years since she started this, fighting on her own, at sea, without him. It had been sixteen years since she had started to believe, to look for guidance from her saints, answers to her prayers. Somehow, one should've overlapped the other, but most of the times things didn't happen as they should.
Now he was looking at the one person that he had allowed himself to shed his armor for and it felt like Inej had built a new coat of it around her. Her Saints had abandoned her or she had abandoned them, Kaz was still not sure.
But he had made a promise all those years ago, to come for her, to never stop fighting, and that's what he would do. He'd fight to bring her back.
