Thor is a high school senior when his family - his caring but distant parents and his angry, sharp little brother who has recently utterly ruined Thor's life - moves from their home in the suburbs to the city. To an apartment deeded to their father by their deceased, reclusive, intensely paranoid aunt, who had installed an extensive security system that they never imagine they'd have use of.
Until shortly after they move in, when Thor and Loki are left alone for the weekend while their parents are out of town. The weekend turns into a desperate survival game, pitting the brothers against a group of intruders desperate for a treasure the mysterious Hela left behind. They are trapped in the panic room, an impenetrable steel box, while the intruders try to break down the door - by any means necessary. And they are running out of time.

“Pete?” Tony emphasized, jaw dropping at the sheer audacity. “Since when do you use nicknames for people?”
“I call Bucky by nicknames.” Steve pointed out.
“I called the kid ‘Pete’ first,” Tony said, narrowing his eyes. “Stop trying to steal my shtick. Get your own.”
“You don’t own the nickname, Tony.” Steve looked amused as he said it.
“I can own whatever I want, I’m a billionaire,” Tony replied, already running through the legal process in his mind of how he could possibly patent a nickname. He’d have to ask Pepper. These were dire circumstances. He refused to have his own personal intern usurped by someone wearing the carbon polymer equivalent of Uncle Sam’s tighty-whities.

OR: The media gets one image of Steve and Peter getting hot dogs together and runs with it, assuming that Peter is Steve’s secret son. Tony takes great insult to this fact. Tony Stark does not like being one-upped by people stealing his personal intern. Least of all by Captain America. He has a reputation to uphold, after all.

Summary
Odin knew how wars worked. He had fought them before, remembered how the victors turned their defeated enemy into no more than creatures to fear and slaughter. The Dark Elves were such things until Vanaheim was defeated, and then the Vanir took their place. He remembered the stories, grotesque as they were, and the barely concealed disgust Freya received when she arrived in Asgard, and how they only stopped after he allowed Vanaheim to trade again, four hundred years after the fact. It would be no different this time. The Jotun would become the monsters parents told their children of.
He could hide the truth of what the child was, pass him off as a pregnancy that they had kept hidden so Frigga would not appear vulnerable as she acted as regent. It would catch Asgard by surprise, but they would accept it. He wouldn’t be able to shield him from all the words said against the Jontar, but Odin could soften the blow of them. Perhaps he could just keep the truth from the child as he would the rest of Asgard, yet if the child were to ever find out…
(In which Odin still lies, he just tells a better one)

An idea came to him. It felt almost childish, the sort of notion he would have had when he was young and overwhelmed by the weight of things around him.
But it was a path forward. The only one he could think of right now. The only way to find some calm in the chaos.
