His flailing was cut short by the quick peck on the cheek she gave him, and her impossible grip loosened. With a quick turn on her heel, she happily began to walk away, lantern held behind her, and a grin on her face. “Take that as part of the payment!” she called back, looking over her shoulder to wink at him. “And tell me more about the lantern sometime! I’m interested to learn more!”
With that, she was gone, with such a spring in her step she was almost skipping. March groaned, shoulders deflating with a sigh, his hand on his neck. His skin tingled, his cheek screamed at him, and his body felt warm and fuzzy. Yet as he watched her skip away, a tiny smile pulled at the sides of his lips. A sun through the darkest of times. It was almost ironic that the darkness was her biggest fear. His thoughts were disturbed by the whistle heard near the door, and his glare towards the recipient was instantaneous.
“Don’t--” March snarled towards a leaning Orlic.
“She has you--”
“Stop--”
“Totally--”
“Shut up--”
“Wrapped around her finger.”
