When Susie arrived through the grand entrance of Halstead Manor, Eddie was completely taken aback. She was dressed in a stunning scarlet red Alexander McQueen dress that perfectly accentuated her figure. For a moment, he couldn't tear his eyes away, feeling as if time had momentarily come to a halt. Memories flooded his mind, transporting him back to the last Christmas party he had attended at the manor in 2008.

Summary
Eddie Horniman is not exactly the ask-you-out type in the traditional sense, especially with someone like Susie Glass. She’s sharp, prickly, unpredictable. He’d know better than to make a grand romantic gesture. That would only make her suspicious. She'd clock sentiment a mile off and either mock it or bolt.
It starts with a drink that’s not a date. Then another. And another. Somewhere between a shared chip, a missed goodbye, and one long night that neither of them planned, Susie and Eddie stop pretending they’re on opposite sides of anything.
