“sorry for being late, i was up late last night working.” kaida replies brightly, though he tilts his head to the side like puppy afterwards. “fuwa-san told you guys i was coming, right?”
kanae is quiet for a moment, but fuwa watches curiously as realization slowly dawns in his eyes (about what, he’s a little unsure). he nods before clapping his hands together, shooting a look at kuzuha when the vampire opens his mouth to say something.
“well, i’m glad you could make it.” there’s something like amusement underlining kanae’s words, but fuwa pays no mind to it when he sees kaida light up. “we’ve been waiting for fuwacchi’s partner to arrive for a while now, actually.”
OR: while planning an outing with his friends to the mall, fuwa tells everyone that kaida will be joining them. the problem? he doesn't actually mention kaida by name- he simply calls him his partner instead.

Summary

Again, he reaches out to Shen Qingqiu, more tentatively this time, lightly grasping his hand as if in search of comfort. A simple, childish gesture.

Shen Qingqiu had been strongly tempted to destroy the little bronze mirror in front of Lady Meiyin out of spite, to show exactly what he thought of her disgusting jokes. He wouldn’t be bribed into sparing a group of demons for some sordid trinket - but before he had been able to follow through on slaying a single one of them, they had vanished in a flash of overly floral mist. At least he had managed to chase them away from their latest nest. It is poor consolation, and he slinks back to Cang Qiong Mountain Sect in a foul mood.

Shen Qingqiu looks faintly sick. “What are you doing, you idiot?” he hisses. “Go back to the sect!”
Yue Qingyuan offers them both a thin smile. “I was told the Palace Master has made some accusations toward my shidi. This Sect Leader believes it would be appropriate for such things to be directed to myself, given Shidi is my subordinate. Don’t you agree?”
The Old Palace Master shakes his head like he’s dispelling some sort of fit. “Sect Leader Yue! This master did not expect… ah, that is, forgive this master for troubling you at this time. I was unaware of your… condition.”
“That isn’t the matter at hand, is it?” he says calmly. “This one has to ask that you please release Qingqiu-shidi.”
