Summary
Death is not kind to Wei Wuxian. The dead, even less so.
It seems fair they’re the ones who finally take him; after how many times he’s cheated their master, puppeted them along to shrill whistles and sour refrains, it’s only their due to shred his soul like so much cheap silk. When he falls he falls howling, and mad, and steeps the scorched earth in his blood.
That should be the end of it. The sects hardly dare to believe he’s gone, but every attempt to summon his soul is met with the silence of a still grave. The war is done, the Yiling Laozu is dead, and peace (in time) settles over the sects as though it had never left in the first place.
But some debts reach past the borders of life… and not all of them belong to Wei Wuxian.

“So you'd be the Viper then, yeah?” Tarquin asks, one eyebrow raised.
“Ser Templar,” the Viper greets, as calm and pleasant as if they'd bumped into each other at the market. “Good evening.”
Tarquin stares at him for a moment, then makes a pointed glance over his shoulder where it's still fucking pouring. A small river has started gushing in the divets where the walkway's been worn down over time. “Oh, piss off, it's a wretched night and you know it.”
There's a couple of sounds like muffled laughter from the gaggle of kids, and the Viper's eyes crinkle just a little bit in a way that Tarquin is going to assume is a smile.
“I was being polite,” the Viper protests.
“Polite would've been picking any other back alley to corral your little flock and interrupting someone else's way home at the end of a shite day,” Tarquin grouses.
