Summary
Somehow, this exchange felt more intense, more intimate than their hookup several weeks ago. He’d had Lucifer writhing and gasping like a whore while he got himself off in Vox’s bed and it was this, playing footsie and talking about how much they liked each other like little kids confessing to their schoolyard crushes, that was getting him all hot under the collar. Vox was equal parts mortified and captivated, spellbound by the contradictions of Lucifer’s everything: guileless and wicked, pathetic and cruel, foolish and clever and terrifyingly ancient.
He was fascinating. Vox had gotten only a small taste, and now wanted nothing more than to open him up and see what made him tick.
Or: Vox and Lucifer follow through on their fake dating plan.

“Okay, um, time out,” Lucifer said, because he felt like they were maybe losing the plot a little. “I feel like I should remind you that I’m not here because I was like, uh, overwhelmed with lust for you, in particular. I’m here because Husk said you were Alastor’s ex and I have poor impulse control and thought it’d be funny, but I’m realizing now that this is actually just really weird and you, my friend, have some serious issues that I am not equipped to handle.”

In the chaos that follows the botched Extermination, Vox is smoking like a chimney, which is probably why it takes him quite so long to realize that something is actually wrong with him.
The carnation petals are a little harder to ignore. He's not sure if the color has some sort of symbolic meaning, but it doesn't matter a hell of a lot when you get right down to it, when they're streaked with your own blood.
Vox knows what this is. He also knows how this one ends, and perhaps, all things considered, that wouldn't be the worst possible outcome one could imagine.

Alastor’s powers were not the only thing he lost control of when his staff got broken by Adam. With Alastor’s return to the newly rebuilt hotel his unruly shadow is making his life increasingly difficult, and worse, completely ruining his reputation. The thing had no sense of self respect, happily cuddling up to Alastor’s most hated enemies just to annoy him, knowing Alastor could feel every touch through their connection. And to make matters worse the shadow, still plagued with nostalgic feelings for Alastor’s once friend now enemy, has taken it upon itself to play match maker. If Rosie didn’t fix his staff for him soon, Alastor was surely going to lose it.

“Woah, woah,” Vox says. “Hold your horses. What—”
“This isn’t right.” The shadows around him swirl and turn darker and darker, sharpening into points. His eyes are shining red. “What did you do to me?”
“I didn’t do shit!” Vox sits up and crawls forward—Alastor presses himself back against the wall, ears flattened over his head. The hard turn from predator to scared-looking prey is making Vox’s head swim. “How is it my fault you’re rock hard?”
And he really is, Vox’s hindbrain notes. If anything, he seems to have gotten thicker—Vox can see the outline of him perfectly. Alastor curls in on himself when he notices Vox’s eyes.
“I don’t,” he starts, and then stops. That seems to be the end of the sentence.
“Well, you clearly are," Vox spits, frustrated. “I really don’t get the hassle here. I mean, we’ve been. Uh.” Together is a loaded word, but so is dating. Fraternizing? No, that sounds even more sordid. “Companionable. Right? This isn’t out of the, uh. Range of options.”

Vox said nothing, though his askance glare gave Alastor a good idea.
Alastor felt a sigh escape his lips. That disgusting little insect. Was it even his intention to do this? Or was it simply a by-product of his usual crass dealings? There must be purpose behind injury, otherwise it’s just thoughtless brutality.
