Summary
Henry and Alex had enjoyed a simple dinner, spent time loving their four month daughter, and headed off to bed in their Brownstone, nothing out of the ordinary... Until Alex wakes up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain, of course being the obstinate altruist that he is, he tries to suffer in silence. Henry wakes up a while later and is having none of it, insisting they go to the ER immediately.

Alex is going to Texas for a family reunion. It's a pointless long weekend 'retreat' the Claremonts do every three years, and while Henry accompanied him the last couple of times, this year he can't make it.
It wasn't for lack of trying that Alex couldn't get out of this family tradition. Yet his mother, Ellen, curbed his intentions in one single video call. He answered it, propped the phone on the windowsill as he cooked, and all it took was one glance at her cold face, always threatening when she furrowed her thick congresswoman eyebrows, for him to know it was a lost cause.
Henry had been next to him unloading the dishwasher, and all he said was, "I told you she would call."

or, Alex goes to a family retreat weekend and spends the whole time missing home, pining after Henry, dealing with bullshit from his family, and having to face a mother that hasn’t trusted him in years, at a location so remote there’s barely any cell service. He’s positive he’s going to die here.
