They're known in the scientific comunity as experimental project angel. They are test subjects for the Aura rupturing process, a procedure designed to create a semblance like effect by tearing a hole into a person's Aura.
But to anyone else at Atlas or in Vytal, they're known as team NGELS (Angels).

SaR teams dispatched after the fall of Atlas have recovered the Diary of Dr. Daniel T. Alighieri, known as the person behind the highly secretive Aura rupturing process.
