His dad has told him stories about flowers, about overwhelming feelings and the idiots that push them down so far they have nowhere to come but right back up, and Kaoru had thought it was a funny myth, an interesting folktale. The look his dad had shot him when Kaoru waved it away makes more sense when he had to grind his jaw around the soft petals that start to clog up his throat painfully.
Just don’t think about him, he resolves, bending over to cough up small, pink petals onto the street. Take a deep breath, and don’t think about him.

Summary
Ren reunites with Akechi (who now primarily goes by Goro) during summer break of his first year of college. He soon learns that his rival's absence wasn't due to a desire to avoid him or something much more tragic like he initially thought, but because Goro was in a coma and reawakened with a severe case of amnesia. Of course Ren is all too happy to help, but is how he deals with his new roommate's condition really helping?

L lifts his cuffed hand to his lips in his customary way and simply watches Light, giving nothing away about his own mental processes.
"So this is a Kira shrine," Light says, leaning forward to get a closer look at the jeweled walls.
L nods slowly, "That is true, Light-Kun."

"That's a fine place to start."
