Pearl nods, eager, and glances hopefully at Trucy. Trucy looks back, her blue eyes flickering with something strange. Pearl's smile slips as Trucy reaches for Uncle Nick’s hand, fingers tangling with his.
“...I wanna sleep with you,” Trucy says quietly. The balloon of excitement shrinks in Pearl’s chest, painful with disappointment. Uncle Nick looks surprised, a glimmer of worry on his face, before nudging her gently.
“You don’t wanna sleepover with Pearl?” he says, encouraging. “It’ll be fun, and she doesn’t snore like I do.”
Trucy shakes her head, unhappy. And then she looks up, eyes glimmering, and says, “Please...Daddy?”
Uncle Nick’s eyes go wide, wide, so wide they shine.
And something in Pearl’s chest, small and quiet, goes so tight it hurts.

Five o’clock comes and goes, and Miles Edgeworth frowns at his phone.
The end of the work day had come with suspicious ease. He’d proceeded through paperwork, phone calls, and supervision meetings without a hint of interruption, and on any day other than this one, he might have welcomed the peace.
However, this day is not like any others, and as such, he is…confused. Suspicious, absolutely. Did he perchance miss the squeal of a rappelling hook outside his window? The thumping of hands and knees crawling in his HVAC?
Scanning the sunset-tinted interior of his office, he finds no hint of an illicit visit, no raven-imprinted clue. But he’s certain. The date on his calendar is correct.
Five-oh-one, and not a single attempt at a break-in. Has she forgotten? he wonders. The idea is disappointing, if uncharacteristic. In nine years, she’s never failed to arrive before the day’s end.

Xiao stutters in mid-air, frozen at the top of a towering pine, and stares at the soaked ground below.
Violet light fills his eyes, in the form of a great, towering shape. But it is no Vision vessel. This being cuts through the darkness, a bulk of glowing muscle and teeth. Its edges curl and shift into the air, an esper of unprecedented size, and its claws are massive, each the length of broadswords. It floats ominously above the ground, a severed torso without rear legs, and when it throws its head back, its terrible jaw cracking open to a sea of glowing fangs, what emerges from its mouth is not a growl, but a scream.
An impossibly human scream. Because at the base of the great esper stands a figure, a child, and its face is rent with a fury that chills him to the bone.
"I KILL YOU," the child roars, and the mouth of the wolf echoes his cry.
