Summary
I love that stupid title.
One night, Klavier Gavin falls off of the Ningyo Bridge and almost drowns. She's saved by Arinna Justice, a beautiful mermaid, but the siren loses her tail in the process. Grateful for her savior, Klavier vows to help her in any way she can until Arinna can eventually return home.
Arinna swears on her grave that she'll return to the water, that she won't abandon Trucy like their father did. However, the longer she spends with the kind human, the more her ambition wavers. -

And sometimes she'll wander into the bathroom. Apollo will hop onto the sink counter, or linger behind Klavier, and watch Klavier do her makeup—those careful, even strokes of her mascara, or the fluffy little pats of her blush. And sometimes the dining hall is nothing more than a frenzy of students rushing to their morning classes. Klavier takes Apollo’s hand in hers, those days, to lead her through the dining hall—just to not lose her in the chaos of the morning rush.
None of it has to mean anything. But, oh, Apollo wants it to. And sometimes she believes it does. You wouldn’t be able to fault her if you could see how tiny and secret Klavier smiles as Apollo’s reflection spills over the bathroom mirror—as Apollo makes it back to their table—as Apollo agrees to let Klavier walk her to class.
