Artemis, predictably, sighs again, but stands, Jarlaxle in his arms. A comical sight, probably, seeing that Artemis is a good few inches shorter. But Jarlaxle is too busy marveling at being picked up with such ease – it entices him every damn time.
There's a knock on the door.
They still immediately. There are many reasons someone might be at their door – they have been in this town a few weeks at this point. Both allies and enemies have been made; the latter would seldom go knocking on their door at a still respectable evening hour.
Artemis quickly pulls on a clean shirt as Jarlaxle kicks the pile of bloodied clothing away. Then Artemis opens the door.
Jarlaxle would recognize the man standing behind the doorframe everywhere and every time, in any lifetime, in any circumstance. He would recognize him blind and deaf. In the deepest pits of his heart his face is etched in bloody runes; his voice is lodged in his ears like a forever ringing bell.

Nerevar’s back thumped against the wall. He looked up at that vicious sneer, and into those pained eyes.
“I was just bringing you food. I can leave if you want me-“
Voryn’s fist collided with the stone next to Nerevar’s head, a sickening crunch of bone and ligament. “I AM NOT SOME WRETCH THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF!” He roared.
Nerevar could smell the toothpaste on Voryn’s tounge. He didn’t flinch.
“Do you want to be?”
Voryn blinked. “What?”
”Taken care of? Sure, you can rot in here all by yourself, you’re fully capable of that. You do it all the time.” A low growl escaped Voryn’s throat at that last comment. “But is that what you want?”

Summary
In the future a large colony of humans landed on a remote planet, devoid of organized life. The main goal of these researchers is to observe and study the planet and discover ways to survive on the planet while using its wealth of natural resources in a sustainable way. The Yautja came later, and after some initial conflict, the two groups managed to reach a compromise. The Yautja will hunt the more dangerous animals inhabiting the planet and keep their numbers under control, and the humans will continue on their missions undisturbed. This tentative truce led to them beginning to study each other as well, and left them at the beginning of coexistent peace.

Kto żywi nieuzasadnione uczucie do Agenta Smitha, winien znaleźć przyjemność w czytaniu tego fika ;) Jeszcze nie wiem, jak to się rozwinie. Chciałabym w pewnym momencie połączyć to z akcją filmów, ale znając mnie, pewnie skończy się na dwóch-trzech rozdziałach. Nie mniej, życzę przyjemnej lektury

The job is unpredictable, but it pays good and it's relatively easy.
Except for the part where all the animatronics are more sentient than you thought, and you're roped into a mystery surrounding the Daycare Attendants, who are bit too curious about you for your liking.
